Click Tracking

Click tracking lets you see which links in your email signature get clicked. It's completely opt-in and designed with privacy in mind.

Paid plan feature Click tracking is available on paid plans.

Enabling Click Tracking

1
Open a signature in the editor.
2
Go to the Extras tab.
3
Toggle Enable Click Tracking on.
4
Save your signature, then re-copy and re-install it in your email client. Click tracking only works with the updated signature HTML.

What Gets Tracked

When enabled, Byline tracks clicks on these link types:

  • CTA button — Your call-to-action button (e.g., "Book a Call").
  • Website — Your website link.
  • Meeting link — Your calendar booking link.
  • Social icons — LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, GitHub.

Phone numbers (tel:) and email links (mailto:) are not tracked because they open apps directly rather than navigating to a URL.

How It Works

When click tracking is enabled, links in your signature are wrapped through Byline's tracking redirect. When someone clicks a link:

  1. The click is briefly routed through Byline's server.
  2. The click is recorded (link type, timestamp).
  3. The recipient is immediately redirected to the destination URL.

This happens in milliseconds — the recipient won't notice any delay.

Viewing Your Analytics

Click data is displayed in two places:

Signature Cards (Home Page)

Each signature card shows a 7-day click count badge in the top corner if click tracking is enabled and there are recent clicks. You'll also see a breakdown by link type.

Extras Tab (Editor)

Open a signature and go to the Extras tab to see detailed analytics:

  • Total clicks — All-time click count.
  • Last 7 days — Recent activity.
  • Clicks by type — Breakdown showing which links get the most engagement (CTA, website, social links, etc.).

Privacy

Byline's click tracking is designed to be privacy-friendly:

  • No cookies — No tracking cookies are set on the recipient's device.
  • No fingerprinting — No browser fingerprinting or cross-site tracking.
  • IP hashing — IP addresses are hashed with SHA-256 before storage. Raw IPs are never saved.
  • Deduplication — The same click from the same source within 60 seconds is only counted once.
  • Data retention — Click data is automatically deleted after 90 days.
  • Opt-in only — Tracking is disabled by default. You must explicitly enable it per signature.
!
Team note In a team workspace, click tracking is per-signature, not per-member. If multiple team members use the same corporate signature, all clicks are aggregated together — there is no individual member tracking.
